Expression-Invariant Age Estimation

چکیده
In this paper, we investigate and exploit the influence of facial expressions on automatic age estimation. Different from existing approaches, our method jointly learns the age and the expression by introducing a new graphical model with a latent layer between the age/expression labels and the features. This layer aims to learn the relationship between the age and the expression and captures the face changes which induce the aging and the expression appearance, and thus obtaining expression-invariant age estimation. Conducted on two age-expression datasets (FACES [4] and Lifespan [10]), our experiments illustrate the improvement in performance when the age is jointly learnt with expression in comparison to expression-independent age estimation. The age estimation error is reduced by 14.43% and 37.75% for the FACES and Lifespan datasets respectively. Furthermore, the results obtained by our graphical model, without prior-knowledge of the expressions of the tested faces, are better that the best reported ones for both datasets.

Comparative Study of Human Age Estimation with or without Preclassification of Gender and Facial Expression
Age estimation has many useful applications, such as age-based face classification, finding lost children, surveillance monitoring, and face recognition invariant to age progression. Among many factors affecting age estimation accuracy, gender and facial expression can have negative effects. In our research, the effects of gender and facial expression on age estimation using support vector regr...
متن کاملPseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution
The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...
متن کاملRecognizing Age-Separated Face Images: Humans and Machines
Humans utilize facial appearance, gender, expression, aging pattern, and other ancillary information to recognize individuals. It is interesting to observe how humans perceive facial age. Analyzing these properties can help in understanding the phenomenon of facial aging and incorporating the findings can help in designing effective algorithms. Such a study has two components--facial age estima...
متن کاملESTIMATION OF SCALE PARAMETER UNDER A REFLECTED GAMMA LOSS FUNCTION
In this paper, the estimation of a scale parameter t under a new and bounded loss function, based on a reflection of the gamma density function, is discussed. The best scale-invariant estimator of tis obtained and the admissibility of all linear functions of the sufficient statistic, for estimating t in the absence of a nuisance parameter, is investigated

Let X1 and X2 be two independent random variables from gamma populations Pi1,P2 with means alphaθ1 and alphaθ2 respectively, where alpha(> 0) is the common known shape parameter and θ1 and θ2 are scale parameters. Let X(1) ≤ X(2) denote the order statistics ofX1 and X2. Suppose that the population corresponding to the largest X(2) (or the smallest X(1)) observation is selected. The problem ofin...
